Individual Therapy
The individual therapy process allows a person to begin to explore their emotions, behavioral patterns, and life experiences in a safe, empathetic space with a qualified clinician. I am committed to providing support to individuals willing to explore their feelings, speak their truths, and move towards solutions and healthy coping practices as it relates to their mental wellness. Together, we will decide how to go about therapy in a way that is fitting to your mental health needs. I believe that though I am the coach that helps to guide you towards overall wellness, you ultimately are the expert on your life and must be committed and intentional about your healing journey.
Couples Therapy
Romantic partnership is both a beautiful and challenging form of a relationship to navigate. Couples therapy allows partnered individuals to move towards growth and restoration of their relationship. Whether it involves exploration of healthier forms of communication or working through challenges surrounding intimacy and/or parenting, I will guide couples to an upward trajectory of their romantic connection.
Specialties
Trauma
Trauma is a deeply distressing experience that most individuals encounter in their lifetime. What we experience after a traumatic situation occurs is our mind and body’s way of sending a message that anything similar to what we’ve already experienced is unsafe, even if there is not actual danger present. The aforementioned can begin to take a toll on a person’s life from how they tread through the world, relationships, as well as their emotional state. It is important to begin a process of healing from past trauma(s) in an effort to avoid or eliminate unhealthy means of coping and emotional numbing.
Trauma is often an unfortunate reality of one’s lived experience. Trauma comes in many forms including: sexual assault, divorce, physical abuse, financial hardship, racial trauma, grief & loss etc… I don’t believe a person can truly “get over” something as painful as the loss of a loved one or childhood bullying. However, I do believe that with intentional healing efforts, a person can eventually develop a sense of resiliency, find peace within, and live a full life.
Anxiety
Anxiety is a vast concept that affects every individual in unique ways. It can show up in less harmful instances such as excitement for a first date, nervousness during a job interview, or dwelling on an upcoming presentation. Anxiety can also present as an often debilitating experience in ways that include excessive worrying and fear over matters that are outside of one’s control and/or panic attacks that lead to extreme physical responses (ie nausea, heart palpitations, profuse sweating).
There are a variety of ways to manage one’s anxiety if it becomes a barrier to quality of life. I can support you with both understanding your anxious symptoms as well as helping you develop a unique plan to manage the anxiety. I will help you to grow in understanding that anxiety is not something that has to stop you from achieving goals and living a life of abundance.
Depression
Life can throw us “lemons” which can affect how we feel, think, and act. That is where depression enters our chat. Symptoms of depression can range from mild to moderate intensity including sadness, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, and/or hypersomnia. Depression can also lead to more severe symptoms including feelings of worthlessness and guilt, as well as thoughts of death or suicide.
Depression can be a life-long battle for some and an unexpected, recent experience for others. Encountering depression is inevitable for most of us because though life can be rewarding, there also comes tougher times (ie the death of a loved one, recent breakup, or loss of a job). We don’t normally choose when and how life throws us curveballs, but I can support you in choosing how to navigate those curveballs in a way that honors your feelings and emotions while moving you toward a path to healing.
Addiction
Addiction is defined as strong physical or psychological need or urge to do something or use something. Addiction is also defined as an often fatal disease. Though the aforementioned is true, I believe that addiction isn’t only a reference to the substance that an individual is abusing but also the hurt and suffering that they are carrying. Many individuals rely on the use of illicit drugs, alcohol, as well as food or sex, as a form of emotional numbing; and often have done so for years.
Eliminating the harmful use of substances or behaviors is significant to the health and functioning of your body. However, healing one’s emotional pain is also a vital aspect of battling addiction. I know the decision to stop running from pain can be pretty scary, but you don’t have to do it alone. Together we can develop a plan to explore the source of your addiction, address the reasoning behind your suffering and/or explore other available options for treatment.
Self-Esteem & Self-Worth
Self-esteem and self-worth are often the blueprints to success, motivation, and showing up in the world as a confident individual. But one’s self-esteem can also be the path to poor choices, behaviors rooted in insecurity, and ultimately an unhealthy relationship with self and others. Self-esteem encompasses the opinions, beliefs, and values we have of ourselves and self-worth determines our sense of belonging and whether we feel “good enough”.
I can support you in not only improving your self-esteem, but also getting to the core of how and why your sense of personal value may have began to diminish. I’m here to help you to see your true worth, whether you feel others recognize it or not. You deserve to have love and think highly of yourself just as I’m sure you do for others around you.
